About Our Music

Since the middle of the 19th century, the Grace Church Choir has played an active and important role in parish life. The choir has remained ever present, as eras and generations have come and gone. During this time many people have been touched in some way by the Grace Church Choir, and many members have spoken of the profound impact it has had on their lives.

In the recent past, members of the choir have sung as an ensemble or as individuals with several well known musical organizations, including The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, The Brown University Chorus, The Providence Singers, and The Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra.

The choir has been under the direction of Mark Johnson since 1990. Since Mark's arrival, the repertoire and the standard of the singing has been transformed. Music performed currently at Grace Church incorporates a wide variety of liturgically appropriate music of many periods and styles.
