Below are a few of our special events. Check our calendar regularly for new and exciting events at Grace.
Evensongs: Our choir leads a service of sung prayer about once a month in the evenings by candlelight. This service is a time for quiet contemplation and a perfect opportunity reflect and prepare for the week ahead. The service is usually at 5:00 PM on Sunday afternoon and is advertised on a regular basis. For more information and the schedule, please contact the office.
The Great Vigil of Easter: The Easter Vigil, also called the Paschal Vigil or the Great Vigil of Easter, is a service held in many Christian churches as the first official celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. Historically, it is during this service that people (especially adults) are baptized and that adult catechumens are received into full communion with the Church. It is held in the hours of darkness between sunset on Holy Saturday and sunrise on Easter Day-most commonly in the evening of Holy Saturday-but is considered to be the first celebration of Easter Day, since the Christian tradition considers feasts to begin at sunset of the previous day.
In the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion, the Easter Vigil is the most important Mass of the liturgical year as well as the first celebration of the Eucharist during the fifty-day long celebration of Easter, and is marked by the first use since the beginning of Lent of the word "Alleluia", a distinctive feature of the liturgy of the Easter season. Similarly, in Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy, the Divine Liturgy which is celebrated during the Easter Vigil is the most elaborate and important of the ecclesiastical year. The Easter Vigil has enjoyed a substantial revival among the Lutherans, having been abandoned at the Reformation.
Blessing of the Animals: In observance of St. Francis' Day, which is October 4, is always celebrated at Grace on the first Sunday in October closest to October 4. Everyone brings their animals to either the 10 or 8 AM service where instead of a sermon, the animals are brought to the altar rail and receive a blessing by the priest.
All Saints Day: Is November 1 and is observed at Grace Church the first Sunday on or after that day. We remember all the Saints who have entered into glory including family and friends. During the month of October we bring family photos and leave them on the high altar in the church until after the celebration of All Saints. Candles are lit on that Sunday and names of those who have died in the past year are read during the Eucharist.
