This “service of shadows” features the unaccompanied singing of Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony in a darkened church with the gradual extinguishing of candles.

Choral Eucharist (Rite II) with The Washing of Feet, Procession to the Altar of Repose, and Stripping of the Altar.

Following the Maundy Thursday service, those who wish to stay and pray may do so until midnight at the Altar of Repose in the Chapel of the Messiah which is decorated to represent the Garden of Gethsemane.

Time: 12:00 pm

The Solemn Liturgy during which we recall Christ’s crucifixion and death on the cross. Meditations and music are offered and the Passion of Christ is sung. At the end of the service, the tower bell is tolled.

A special service of the Way of the Cross with music that features the 14 stations of Christ’s journey to Mount Calvary posted throughout the church.

* The Great Vigil of EasterThe Great Vigil of Easter

Time: 8:00 pm

The Great Vigil and First Eucharist of Easter begins in near-darkness as the Easter fire is lighted in the rear of the church. The Paschal Candle is brought into the church and we recite the renewal of baptismal vows. Excerpts from Salvation history are read and light is finally restored.
