Grace Church in Providence presents Candlesong: Reflective Music for the City and the Soul, an evening musical service combining the immersive sensory experiences of gleaming candlelight, sublime Gregorian chant, and fragrant incense; all within the stunning surroundings of this historical and beloved Providence landmark. Grace Episcopal Church, built in 1846, is located at the corner of Westminster and Mathewson streets, right in the heart of downcity Providence. Attendees are invited to let inspiration and relaxation simply take hold as the Candlesong experience washes over them in pleasing harmonies of sight and sound. Candlesong is based on the ancient service of Compline from the monastic offices. Compline – from the Latin “completorum” – was the last service of the day, therefore “completing” the day. Doors open at 8:30pm. Candlesong beings at 9:00pm, and is roughly 20 minutes in duration. Pizza and cookies for college students to follow in The Pavilion at Grace.
